Social media policies are becoming the hot topic now as legal departments are beginning to seriously grapple with the issue. How open or restrictive should companies be with respect to allowing employees to engage in social media. Should employees be able to blog or Twitter or Facebook on company time? Should they be allowed to use their company name in association with their communications? What is the legal departments oversight responsibility?

James Wong, GC of Chinney Capital, has just created a Social Media Policy Group on Martindale-Hubbell Connected. He’s uploaded a document that includes analysis on the topic and a draft policy on the issue. I would urge anyone interested in this topic to join the Group. We’re also interested in hearing what other legal departments are doing in terms of policy.
